Fresh out of the oven! -- UPDATED

UPDATE: now includes preview and link to order iTunes version!

DING! The Sibbald Family Famous Recipes Cookbook is DONE and we have ordered enough copies for our little family.

The book is available to you, now, in two formats: print or PDF. (I'm still waiting for the iTunes book to go live.) Here are the links.

  • print copy is available on Amazon.com for $36.62 plus shipping. I know. Unless you want one for sentimental reasons or want to go vintage, who's going to pay that much for a 70-page book?  But you do have that option. (Incidentally, I earn 85 cents this way. Woo hoo! But I think I have to sell a minimum number, like, oh, 500 copies, before they send me a cheque.) P.S. They have somehow included the wrong thumbnail for the book.
P.P.S. Blurb does not yet have any partnership with Amazon.ca.

  • More likely, you will want it as an e-book for iPad, iPhone (good luck reading the fractions!) or iPod. This e-book only costs $1.99. (I earn $1.00 this way. Again, I think I have to sell a lot of them before they send a cheque.) UPDATE: the links go to Blurb, but the e-book you purchase can be read through the iBooks app.

  • For a PDF ($1.00), you have to order directly from me and pay through PayPal. Just click on the "Buy Now" button, below.

Here is a preview, but don't order through the Blurb link -- it is cheaper to order through Amazon.

Sharing meals with our family by blood and by choice has been a strong underpinning of our life together. We hope this cookbook brings you (virtually) together with us.

It includes almost all of the recipes that I've posted here on the blog, plus some that I've never shared before. It also has a few things that make it an ideal "beginner" cookbook:
  • "Kitchen Basics" like hot chocolate, white sauce, and biscuit dough.
  • Tips for avoiding snafus like watery stews
  • Lessons Learned the Hard Way
Part of why this book has been so important to me (and to Stephen, who played a big role!) is because of these words from Rev. Bob Brow, who officiated at our wedding ceremony in August 1984. He wrote this in his book, Living Totally Without Guilt:
The Family Table
The children of a family are those who have a right to eat at the family table. Others need an invitation to a meal. But once people of any age have a right to eat regularly at a family table, we know they are family.

Some sneak previews, to whet your appetite:

One of the pages from the book.

Making it available to the rest of you proved to be considerably more challenging than expected. I ended up uploading it at least four times and then had to wait several days for Amazon and iBooks to "process" the book. I guess even self-published books get a review before they go live.

I consider it a "learning opportunity." Which is to say: frustrating, but I won't have to take nearly so many steps the next time. (Next time probably won't be a cookbook, but you never know.)

An example of one of the two-page spreads.
I'm really excited that the book is finally done, after more than two years, and corrupted and resurrected files and can't wait to give it to our kids. I hope you'll enjoy it, too, and look forward to hearing from you!

    1. Thank you -- that's what I was hoping for. I learned a lot along the way. Food is not as easy to photograph as I had expected, especially in the winter months when there is not much natural light at dinnertime.
