I'm not the first, and I won't be the last to harp on these points. But they've been particularly irritating of late.
- Learn when to use there, their and they're.
- Likewise, it's and its.
- Re-read my post on me vs. I. Do it several times.
- "Your" = "belonging to you." "You're" = "you are." Memorize it.
- Learn to write, "a lot" rather than "alot." (This link is one of the funniest you will EVER click on. So, do it!)
- It's "voilà," not "viola." (A viola is an instrument.)
- It's "in lieu," not "in lei." (A lei is a floral garland.)
I know all of these and it drives me nuts when I see one used incorrectly, but I'm sure I misuse them myself when I'm not fully paying attention. My big one as you may recall from my Facebook rant is "should/could/would of" instead of "should/would/could have."

Diane - wish I'd remembered the have/of fail. I've noticed that some writers (of novels) will use the incorrect "of" when an uneducated character speaks. As if that character were actually writing out his or her speech. Interesting.
