Our bedroom: air mattress, bins, and suitcases |
Contrary to what I wrote in my last post about our move, we decided to postpone our movers and to leave our house looking "lived in." After my post, we received several cautionary messages and phone calls about the risks of showing an empty house.
At the same time, however, we were eager to start living at the new house — and especially to move the pets to the new house so we wouldn't have to scramble to find a place for all of us whenever we had a showing. (Especially as the weather got hotter; we couldn't leave the dog in the car.)
So we hauled out our old double-bed-sized air mattress, packed a couple of suitcases and are in the process of moving everything that isn't readily seen or doesn't add to the ambiance at the old house. We're sort of camping, but with the added benefit of running water and air conditioning. You could call it glamping (a portmanteau of glamour+camping), though it is considerably more luxurious than our tree-top glamping experience near Mont Tremblant.
That means we've mostly emptied the kitchen cabinets (except the display cabinets) and the bathrooms.
We're still trying to figure out how to fit into the kitchen in Almonte, which is significantly smaller than the one in Ottawa, but the new cabinets in the dining room do help relieve some of the pressure there.
I had to remove the doors because I kept beaning myself on them. |
We've decided that we would rather take a steep drop in price than rent it out for a year (or more) — the stress is just not worth it.
In the meantime, we're getting to know our neighbours and enjoying the intense quiet of country life.
Kane enjoys his new pool, but still prefers the big pool. He's actually more excited about the meadow. |
